The UK successfully bid in 2019 to host the annual INTERPOL General Assembly (GA) in 2024. The General Assembly is INTERPOL’s highest governing body, responsible for major decisions affecting strategic direction, general policy and resources. The event, which will be hosted at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, is an opportunity for the UK to showcase its public safety delivery excellence and UK wide policing, with the likelihood of VVIP UK focus on the event and subsequently on law enforcement activity. As a key moment of global attention on the UK, the brand identity was an important aspect of this.
The branding in the first instance will be viewed by up to 1200 delegates from up to 195 member countries – most of which will come from a policing/security background. Therefore, UK cultural references need to have a global reach to ensure that all audience members can relate to the key messages.
A strong brand identity was created, which put the focus on integration and unity. Geometrics lines coming together were the basis for the brand which gave it a distinctively British look and feel, with the Scottish saltire at the heart of the brand to reinforce the fact that the event is being held in Scotland.
